L'Amante
La Vec[c]hia atanto da me si diparte,
E 'l camin eb[b]e tosto passeg[g]iato;
E quand' i fui un poco dimorato,
Verso 'l giardin n'andai da l'altra parte,
Pregando Idio che mi conduca 'n parte
Ch'i' de mia malatia fosse sanato.
Aperto l'uscio sì eb[b]i trovato;
Ver è ch'era soc[c]hiuso tutto ad arte.
Con molto gran paura dentro entrai;
Ma, quand' i' vidi Mala-Bocca morto,
Vie men del fatto mio sì mi dottai.
Amor trovai, che mi diè gran conforto
Co·l'oste sua, e molto m'allegrai
Che ciascun v'era 'n aiutarm' acorto.
| Lover
Meanwhile the Old Woman leaves me,
and had quickly passed along the path;
and after I had waited a bit,
I went toward the garden by the other way,
praying that God may guide me to that place
where I would be cured of my sickness.
I found the gate open;
in truth, it was half-closed on purpose.
With much trepidation I went inside;
but, when I saw Bad Mouth dead,
I was much less fearful about my situation.
I found Love who gave me much encouragement
with his army, and I rejoiced
that everyone there was ready to help me.
