For a reading of the 'peasant' that is based in the representation of Saturn as an old and tired farmer, carrying a spade or mattock, and thus keyed to the allegorical understanding of Saturn as time, see Iannucci (Iann.1982.1). The phrase would then mean: 'let Fortune turn her wheel as she pleases and let time continue its relentless course' (p. 6).
